Following the advice by departmental management that processing of Old Age Allowance cases was part of their normal duties, the Welfare Assistants Association agreed to resume this duty but refused to perform 20 types of other clerical duties. Impact of this action was minimal. Health & Welfare Branch and Civil Service Branch are jointly examining the implications of a manpower review conducted by Finance Branch.

The departmental management is maintaining a dialogue with staff on the creation of promotion posts. Services to the public have not been adversely affected.

AGC donfirmed that the disciplinary proceedings on the Chief Officer (who was found "not guilty') were properly conducted and the findings supported by evidence. The Commissioner of Correctional Services considers that the case may now be closed.
