The familiarisation visit to Peking by a group of Hong Kong Administrative Officers last month once again proved to be a valuable and eye-opening experience for those concerned.

My thanks to you and the Embassy staff Janet Rogan in particular - for organising an interesting and balanced programme for the group and for looking after them so well.

In 17

I see these visits as playing an important part of the process of breaking down barriers on both sides. They also provide a good opportunity for our officers to acquire a better understanding of the Chinese political, economic and social systems. I know the AOS found the direct contacts and briefing sessions with Chinese officials and academics particularly useful.

I hope

We intend to continue with these visits. they will not be too much of an imposition for the Embassy. We greatly appreciate the help you give us with the programme.
