Some respondents

respondents commented that most of the new appointees shared very similar professional backgrounds with those elected by functional constituencies. They were afraid that there would now be a predominance in LegCo of professionals with limited knowledge of the needs of the general public. Rather inevitably they could hardly work in harmony with the directly elected members who represented the grassroots.

Some also picked up Allen LEE's remarks that the Government was considering whether the Senior LegCo Member should continue to be appointed. They pointed out that this was just one of a host of issues regarding' LegCo's operations with the addition of directly elected members. They hoped
