UDHK's stance on Legco appointments

Most of the respondents were critical of UDHK's demand for appointment of more liberals to Legco particularly in the presentation of a list of candidates to the Governor for his consideration. Some respondents suggested that the UDHK was simply trying to expand its political influence. Most felt that the UDHK was being unnecessarily aggressive and in too much of a hurry to seek changes to the existing system.

Response to the newly appointed Legco member

Respondents generally welcomed the new appointments to Legco. They felt that it was appropriate to appoint professionals of no particular political affiliation to the Legco. They also thought it unfair for UDHK to assume that appointed members were "conservatives" simply because they did not share their views on political developments. Some respondents said that UDHK elected members should not pre-judge the appointed members as the performance of both elected and appointed members has yet to be evaluated.
