Gurkha Legislation
Thank you for copying to me your letter of 22 January to David Waddington. I have now seen his reply to you of 8 February. I - agree with him that, for the reasons he gives, we should not use the Hong Kong Bill to enact the necessary legislative amendments in respect of Gurkhas. I recognise the difficulties in using the Armed Forces Bill, but I think the decision taken by OD on 9 May last year should stand.
I am copying this minute to the Prime Minister, other members of OD, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury, and to Sir Robin
Butler.
