The Hong Kong Recruitment Fair

As 1997 approaches emigration from Hong Kong has grown steadily to its current level of about 55,000 per year. Approximately 45% of these emigrants are in employment, and of these approximately 60 per cent are 25 to 44 year olds and hold professional, technical, managerial, and administrative positions. 15 per cent of emigrants are degree holders.

The desire of so many young, well educated, highly skilled professionals to emigrate from Hong Kong provides employers in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia, and New Zealand (the traditional host countries for Hong Kong emigrants) with a substantial and attractive resource from which to recruit for vacancies in a wide range of employment sectors, including construction and civil engineering, electronics engineering, most other engineering disciplines, IT/computing, banking and finance, and health services.

Details of the sectors of the Hong Kong population that are most attractive to would-be employers and that meet the visa requirements of potential host countries are as follows:
