The group i represent has been in contact with the British Government over the last year or so on the issue of non-British spouses of British citizens living in Hong Kong. You will be aware of recent concessions announced by the Home Office in this respect.

I was fortunate enough to be able to meet with Mr Maude during his visit to Hong Kong in April this year and also, together with Mr Paul Channon, to attend a meeting with the Home Secretary in June to discuss this important issue.

I would very much appreciate the opportunity to meet Lord Caithness to discuss this matter during his visit to Hong Kong. Perhaps the Minister might also find it useful to brief us on the current plans to implement the concessions offered to our spouses, particularly the setting up of a register and issue of a letter confirming their status.

I apologise for the late request, but would appreciate it so much if a brief meeting could be arranged at which I and perhaps one or two colleages from our Society could meet with the Minister.
