SPOUSES OF BRITISH EXPATRIATES IN HONG KONG
In consideration of the special circumstances in Hong
Kong you kindly agreed that non-British widows of British
citizens still resident in Hong Kong should be given an
assurance that they will be admitted to the UK with their
dependant children at any time on the same terms as
spouses of people settled here. As you know, had the
subject been raised in supplementaries after the
statement on 20 December, it was agreed that I should
announce this concession.

it did not come up at the time, you were planning to
announce it by means of an inspired PQ. I believe you
are now proposing to announce it when the Bill for the
package receives a second reading. That could be six
months away, whereas I may well be exposed to some
pressure
