9.

In considering other categories of Hong Kong people for citizenship, such as civil servants, professionals, etc. we wonder whether the Government is planning to extend its offer of British nationality rights to the spouses of selected people without requiring them to leave HK. It would seem a somewhat empty offer if their spouses were not included. We hope you would not offer such spouses the right to enter the UK (if that is indeed your plan) whilst the spouses of people who are already full British citizens are allowed no such right.

We ask you to please give your most serious attention to the points raised above. We hope that you will permit us to remain in Hong Kong to continue to use our experience and skills, such as they are, in the peace of mind that our families' futures are secured.

Yours faithfully,

JULIAN WALSH
