Dear Sur
Thank you for your letter of 17 April to the Prime Minister about the resolution passed by the NFFCA Conference on 14 April. I have been asked to reply.
The Government has, as you know, introduced legislation to provide for the grant of British citizenship to a limited number of key people and their dependents in Hong Kong. The Goverment considered the case of the war widows fully but concluded that it would not be possible to include this group in the main scheme. However the Government are still looking at what further arrangements can be made for these war widows and a further announcement will be made on this particular issue in due course.
