Up to 35 points can be scored for employment with British firms, the Crown or designated service,. i.e. service for the Hong Kong or UK Government,
service designated under the British Nationality Act 1981, e.g. British Council, British Tourist Authority etc.
or

Continuous service will score points at the rate of 1 point for every 6 months, up to a maximum of 35 points in respect of an applicant employed by a British firm, the Crown or designated service on December 1, 1990..
Past service of 3 years or more will score 5 points in respect of an applicant who is no longer employed by a British firm, the Crown or designated service on December 1, 1990.
For civil servants who are encouraged to leave the service to join a public body or corporation aş part of the government's efforts to privatise some services, continuous past service as civil servants will attract points at the rate of 1 point for every 6 months, up to a maximum of 35 points.

Primary or secondary level education in the UK for 3 years or more by December 1, 1990.
Further education (university, polytechnic etc.) in the UK for 2 years or more by December 1, 1990.
Having on December 1, 1990 a close relative (spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandparent or parent-in-law) who is a British citizen or settled in the UK, or a child currently studying in the UK at primary, secondary or further education level.
Investments or property in the UK valued at £100 000 or more on July 26, 1990.
