SALARIES AND TAX PAYMENTS: SOURCES AND METHODOLOGY

1. We spoke. I attach a brief note I have drawn up concerning my sources and methodology in compiling the figures I provided you with last week. This complements and often repeats the points made in our various discussions and my minute of 12 April.

2. We talked of various reasons why these may provide conservative estimates (although to the extent that significant increases in supply in various occupations would depress wages and/or displace existing workers, they might also be optimistic). You should not ignore the fact that the figures I have produced only refer to the possible tax take from the heads of households. Since I have explicitly assumed that they are both married and have children the tax take from working spouses and, in the future, children would presumably significantly increase total.
