You also suggested that more information was needed about the occupations of people emigrating from Hong Kong. According to Hong Kong Government statistics the professional occupations most seriously affected by emigration at present are: lawyers, systems analysts, computer programmers, accountants, auditors, doctors, dentists, nurses, mid-wives, engineers, architects, surveyors, and general and production managers.
You asked what sort of people will benefit from the
scheme. Given the intention of the scheme, members of the
occupations listed in the previous paragraph should figure prominently among the beneficiaries. In addition we shall
cover key people in the public sector across the range of Government departments as well as for members of the disciplined services such as the police, customs, immigration, fire and ambulance services. Provision will also be made for those who may find themselves vulnerable
in the years ahead.
