I write to you as the organiser of the above-named Dining Group, which consists of a dozen or more colleagues first elected in 1979 and including several current Ministers. We meet on a monthly basis, usually on a Monday, in one of the House of Commons Dining Rooms, and our discussions are completely 'off the record'. Amongst those already scheduled to address us this year are, Chris Patten, Nigel Lawson, and the Prime Minister.
I have been asked by the Group to see if you would be prepared to be our guest at one of these Dinners where, although the subject would be entirely a matter of your choosing, it was hoped you could touch on the Hong Kong situation.
I wonder if any of the following three dates are convenient?
12 March
30 April
23 July
The Dinners commence at 8.00 pm, will terminate by 10.00 pm, and I can promise you a friendly reception! We will be delighted if you were able to make one of the above dates and I look forward to hearing from you in due
course.
