Dependent Territories Quota
47.
HKG consider that as long as the Dependent
Territories Quota (DTQ) survives, there is no reason to
disqualify applicants from Hong Kong. The future of DTQ
is being considered by HMG.
Local Wives of Expatriates
48.
On the grievances raised by expatriate civil
servants of being treated unfairly, HMG see difficulties
in giving British expatriate civil servants in Hong Kong
preferential treatment. A ministerial statement is
forthcoming shortly, which will give assurances to
widows of expatriates. However, HMG do not wish to
relax the present restrictions. HKG argue that
expatriates form an integral part of the civil service
and assuring them is as important as assuring local officers; for this reason HKG would be in support of naturalisation applications by their spouses under
section 6 (2) of the BNA.
War Widows

HMG
49.
HKG propose that special consideration should be
given to the claims of war widows and that British
citizenship should be granted. However, the number
which is less than 34 should not be counted against the
Package.
