BN(0) status (Article 4, Hong Kong Order 1986)
1. All BDTCS in Chart B are entitled to register as BN(0)s
before:

(a) 1.7.97 if born before 1 January 1997; or
(b) 1.1.98 if born 1.1.97-30.6.97 inclusive.
BN(0) status not transmissible.
Until 1.7.97 BN (0)s will remain BDTCS.
British Dependent Territories citizenship
(Article 3, Hong Kong Order 1986)
4.
Will be lost automatically on 1.7.97 by all BDTCs in Chart B.
British Overseas citizenship (Article 6, Hong Kong Order 1986)
5.
Will be acquired automatically on 1.7.97 by any BDTC in Chart B who, on that date, is stateless ie is not:
(a) a BC; or
(b)
a BN(0); or
(c)
a national of any other country; or
(d) any combination of (a)-(c).
Will be acquired automatically at birth by a person:
6.
(a)
born on or after 1.7.97; and
(b)
who would otherwise be stateless; and
7.
(c) whose father or mother was, at the time of the
birth, a BN (0) under paragraph 1 above or a BOC under paragraph 5 above.
Can be acquired by registration at entitlement normally within 12 months of the birth by a person:
(a)
born stateless on or after 1.7.97; and
(b)
(c)
whose father or mother (the 'parent in question') was, at the time of the birth, a BOC under paragraph 6 above; and
a parent of the 'parent in question' was, on 30.6.97, any BDTC OTBD mentioned in Chart B.
