Thank you for your letter of 28 April about the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Bill.
When devising the scheme, which is embodied in the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Bill, we took very careful note of all the representations from the non-Chinese ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, including the Eurasian community. We concluded that we could not treat this group as a special category within the scheme; they will of course be eligible to apply for British citizenship under the scheme. assure you that each case will be assessed fairly and on its
merits.
