I have now been able to dig out a little more information about the background to the article which appeared recently in the South China Morning Post (attached for ease of reference).

Mr Hattersley has written to the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Organisations in Britain promising that a Labour government would give full British citizenship to all Asians in Hong Kong who otherwise would become stateless after 1997 - i.e. about 2,000 people.

3. The claim in the article that Labour is pledged to give full citizenship to all Asians in Hong Kong appears to be a piece of journalistic exaggeration.
