PS/Mr. Maude
Mr Lachman Narain, who is a leading
member of the Council of Indian Associations, rang me mid morning to ask if he (and possibly Mr. Harilela, who is the President) could call on Mr. Maude for 5 or 10 minutes today. They wish of course to press the case for passports for the Indian minority. Mr. Narain mentioned that he saw Mr. Maude with Mr. Arculi last October, but the situation had changed since then.
I explained that Mr. Maude would be leaving tonight and his programme was now very tight. But I agreed to pass this message on to you. I said that neither you nor I would be able to revert before about 3 pm.
Mr. Narain's office number is 5227123.
