A 1. Your manuscript notes on Rome telno 972 and Copenhagen telno 399 asked if Ministers, the Home Office, the PUS and the administration were kept aware of developments in international support.
/ 2. I attach a copy of our Summary of Responses for your
information. We update this summary as appropriate and it
has become a regular feature in briefing, when Ministers or the PUS visit countries that we have been lobbying, and when they receive visitors from those countries. Copies of the
Summary were also supplied as background for Home Office Ministers during the passage of the British Nationality
(Hong Kong) Bill and the Order in Council.
3.
We do not inform Ministers each time there is an update
to the Summary (in the interests of reducing the amount of paper that crosses their desks) but we do ensure that they receive an updated copy of the Summary whenever operational
needs dictate.
