New Zealanders have now completed their review of immigration policy. Have decided to introduce a points scheme on

Australian model. Appears to be little

scope for deferred immigration.

In view of Portuguese commitments to

Macao, the Embassy in Lisbon see no

point in pressing the Portuguese over

guarantees for Hong Kong people.

However, a number of Hong Kong BDTCs have obtained or applied for Portuguese citizenship through a Macao link.

Singapore Government are considering the

possibility of extending their existing

scheme for blue collar workers and

introducing separate arrangements for executives (allowing only six months on secondment in Singapore).

The Swedes have no plans to modify their existing immigration law specifically for Hong Kong. There is however flexibility within existing laws to allow employees of Swedish firms to get

short term entry permits which can be

converted to permanent residence

permits. They would not wish this to be announced publicly.
