MR MAUDE'S VISIT TO CHINA: BRIEFING ON HONG KONG ISSUES
Jolo
1. We need to set in hand briefing for Mr Maude's visit to China and his brief stopovers in Hong Kong (23-27 July). FED, who are in the lead on this visit, would like to submit the steering brief by the weekend and have asked us to provide a contribution on Hong Kong issues by Thursday 12 July. I should therefore be grateful if you would let me have a short contribution to the steering brief by lunch time on Wednesday 11 July.
2.
As Mr Paul would like to see the subject briefs before he goes on leave, I should also be grateful if you could let me have the draft subject briefs (objectives and background only) and a contribution to the press brief by lunch time on 12 July. A list of the briefs required is attached.
3. SEAD will be submitting their brief on Vietnamese boat people direct to FED, after clearing the draft with us.
