Mr McClelland was very pleased with the good co-operation between the Emergency Unit and the Australian High Commission, and also referred to the close co-operation between our missions in Baghdad and the assistance which our Embassy in Kuwait was giving to Australians. He explained that sanctions against Iraq would have a serious impact on the Australian economy as Iraq was a major purchaser of Australian wheat. Lord Caithness said we were most grateful for Australia's contribution to the Multinational Task Force and that the UK too would be hurt by sanctions but that we would pay an even greater price in the future if Iraq were allowed to get away with its aggression.
