Sweden were approached to assist in the worldwide assurances which we have been seeking.

Sweden have confirmed their will to help but wish to coordinate a

Scandinavian response with the Danes and Norwegians. A concensus

was proving difficult.

Mr Maude may like to remind the Swedes about this issue and see if there are further developments. They are thinking along the lines of some form of entry permit to employees of Swedish companies

of Hong Kong.
