INTERVIEW WITH SWISS TELEVISION

1.

Swiss Television have requested an interview with the Secretary

of State to coincide with the visit of the Swiss Foreign Minister,

René Felber, to London from 6-9 February. The interviewer would be

their (German speaking) London correspondent, Samuel Plattner. He

would wish to cover primarily EC/EFTA relations and Hong Kong (the

Swiss have substantial financial interests in the colony). The

interview would also be made available to the French and Italian

speaking stations and thus receive nationwide coverage.

2.

I recommend that the Secretary of State should agree. HMA Berne and WED concur. We would need a 15-minute slot during the period 7-10 February. The interview would also provide an opportunity to stress the importance of maintaining international efforts to combat

money laundering and to welcome Swiss efforts in this area.

3. M. Felber will be giving his own press conference at the Swiss

Embassy during the morning of 8 February.
