CHARGES UK AND HONG KONG WITH FAILURE TO PROTECT
HUMAN RIGHTS OF HONG KONG CITIZENS

The International Human Rights Law Group (Law Group) charged
the Governments of the United Kingdom (UK) and Hong Kong with
failing to ensure that Hong Kong citizens fully enjoy
internationally recognized human rights. The charges were made in a critical analysis of the pending Hong Kong Bill of Rights
Bill released by the human rights organization today.
The Law
Group analysis calls on the U.K. and Hong Kong Governments to
revise the Hong Kong Bill of Rights Bill to fully protect the rights guaranteed to Hong Kong citizens under the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International
Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights ("International
Covenants").
The Law Group found the Rights Bill grants rights without remedies and leaves Hong Kong citizens without effective means of
safeguarding rights guaranteed under the Bill. The organization called for the Bill to state "in unequivocal terms the principle
