EMIGRATION FROM HONG KONG
1. The Hong Kong Government's current estimate of the
likely level of emigration from Hong Kong in 1990 is about
60,000 (ie an average of 1,100 to 1,200 per week). A more authoritative figure will be available in the autumn, based
on the annual returns from Consulates and High Commissions
in the territory.

The Hong Kong Government believe that around 25% of all
those leaving come from the professional, technical,
administrative and managerial sections of the working
population. About 15% of emigrants who have left Hong Kong
in the past two years have completed tertiary education.
disproportionately large number of emigrants are aged
between 25 and 44. There are particularly few emigrants in the age group of 65 and above.
