1. The Clerk to the FAC has sent us the attached list of questions which we are required to answer by a memorandum which will form
the basis for the evidence session on 2 May with the PUS and supporting officials. The memorandum has to be cleared with the PUS, the Secretary of State and the Treasury, and will eventually be published as part of the Committee's Report on the Session.
2. The Clerk's apparently generous timetable is unfortunately much restricted by the planned absences of the Secretary of State and the PUS over the next few weeks. I must ask that the lead departments I have indicated below let me have their draft answers by close of play on Tuesday 3 April.
3. When the PUS has seen the memorandum, he will wish to commission briefs for the oral session. Shortly before the Session, the Clerk will give us an idea of the likely line of questioning which will almost certainly require amendments and additions to the briefing.
