FAC: INQUIRY INTO HONG KONG
1. As you know, the FAC are anxious to receive a full reply to their Report on Hong Kong, dealing with the outstanding points not covered in our earlier reply, before the Whitsun recess. We are required to reply by Command Paper and it has been agreed that publication will now be on Wednesday 23 May. Advance copies (Confidential Final Revises - CFRS) will be made available to the Committee the previous day, and to News Department a few hours before publication.

The following timetable has been agreed with NTD:
Thursday 10 May
Final draft, approved by the PUS and Ministers, to reach PRU. PRU to send to NTD for printing.
Tuesday 15 May
Final proofs checked by Miss Marsden, HKD, and returned by 5.00 pm the same day to NTD (for HMSO).
Tuesday 22 May
CFRS (advance copies) available. Copies to PRU (for FAC, internal FCO distribution, and News Department).
Wednesday 23 May
11.00 am PRU to provide News Department with 30 CFRS for Lobby Correspondents.
3.30 pm Laying and publication.
