C. THE STATUS OF THE TWO GERMAN STATES

Visit to Berlin and Bonn

Seven Members of the Committee led by the Chairman, Rt Hon David Howell MP, are visiting Berlin and Bonn on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 May as part of their inquiry into the Status of the Two German States.

As part of their programme, the Members will meet the following:

in West Berlin

in East Berlin

in Bonn

the Governing Mayor, Herr Walter Momper;

the Foreign Minister, Herr Marcus Meckel and leaders of political parties;

Federal Ministers and leaders of political parties

Evidence from the Foreign Secretary

The Committee will also raise issues relating to this inquiry during the course of its oral evidence from the Foreign Secretary on Wednesday 23 May (see above).

Publication of Minutes of Evidence

The Minutes of the Evidence given by Mr Hurd on 4 April was published on 3 May as HC 335-i (ISBN 0 010 285 890X) and is available from HMSO (£4.30).

D. HONG KONG

Government Reply

The Government's further reply to the Committee's report on ‘Hong Kong' (Second Report of Session 1988-89, HC, 1988-89, 281-1) will be published on Wednesday 23 May as Cm 1082.

E. CHANGE IN MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMITTEE

Mr Nigel Forman MP (Conservative Carshalton and Wallington) was nominated by the House on 21 March to replace Mr Ian Taylor MP after the latter had been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to Rt Hon William Waldegrave MP. The full membership of the Committee is therefore as follows:
