ACCOUNTABILITY OF THE EXECUTIVE

Article 43 of the Basic law provides that the Chief

Executive shall be accountable to the Central People's

Government and the Hong Kong SAR. Article 72(9) provides for a system whereby the legislature can impeach the Chief Executive. Furthermore Article 64 provides that the

Government of the SAR must abide by the law and shall be accountable to the legislature and Article 50 gives circumstances under which the Chief Executive must resign.

- We believe that these Articles together provide for adequate accountability and checks and balances.
