HONG KONG: LOCALISATION OF LAWS ON ARBITRATION

Hong Kong is currently engaged in a programme of localising UK legislation which has been extended to it by Order in Council. This will enable the legislation to survive the 1997 transition.

2. Hong Kong telno 3629 (attached) asks for advice on two aspects of the Arbitration (International Investment Disputes) Act 1966. I attach a copy of Ms Foakes' minute of today's date which answers both points but suggests that I consult you on the second, which is a policy question.

I should be grateful to know if you agree with Ms Foakes advice before I reply to Hong Kong.
