8. We note David Coates' concern about implications that this case may have for enforcement of Chinese judgements in Hong Kong post 1997. We would welcome Hong Kong's views, but as far as we can see, there would be none. The existing rules enabling foreign civil judgements to be enforced in Hong Kong are well established. Although Chinese judgements would not strictly count as foreign ones after 1997, we would see no cause for concern in the pre-1997 practices being continued in an appropriate form. But this is all a matter for consideration between now and 1997.

Finally, it might also be useful for Hong Kong to consult Perry Keller who can offer more expert advice on the Chinese legal angle.
