according to the CNL, the status as a Chinese citizen of a Hong Kong born person who has obtained the right of abode in the UK without having left Hong Kong will not be affected by this right of abode, regardless of whether this right includes British citizenship;

in the past, Chinese nationals living in Xinjiang and the North-east of China left for the Soviet Union and North Korea; however, they are still regarded as Chinese nationals whilst in Chinese territory, although they have obtained USSR passports and citizen certificates of North Korea;

persons not regarded by Chinese Government as having obtained foreign nationality will not be entitled to foreign consular protection within China;

those Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign nationality must renounce their Chinese nationality before they can enjoy foreign consular protection within China.
