Kong, such status should lapse with the termination of British administration over Hong Kong. According to Chinese law, whoever obtains his nationality by virtue of a connection with Hong Kong can only be a Chinese national.
The UK nationality package is applicable to Hong Kong only and will enable certain Hong Kong persons to become British citizens without leaving Hong Kong. Since such British citizenship clearly derives from "a connection with Hong Kong" and unlike BDTC status, such British nationality is intended to continue beyond 1997, should the Chinese Government recognise citizenship?
