On Tuesday 8th May the Secretary of State held a meeting with
Robert Adley, MP.

The following points were covered :
Mr. Adley expressed the view that the failure to consult, or as
he put it, even to inform in advance the People's Republic of
China about the Hong Kong British Passports scheme had provoked
strong criticism inside the PRC.
Mr. Adley recommended very strongly that the Secretary of State
should make contact with Madame Zhang You Young at the Chinese
Embassy in London before she returns to the PRC later in the
year.
Mr. Adley is trying to arrange for an All Party Group of Members
of Parliament to visit the PRC later this year and reported that
preparations are well in hand.
