David Campbell has reported from Geneva that the UN have now printed the UK report as a document which increases the likelihood that we will be examined by the Human Rights Committee at its autumn session in Geneva between

22 October-9 November. A final decision will not be taken until the Committee's July session.

2.

We and the Home Office will be fielding senior officials and Legal Advisers to present the UK and Dependent Territories report but we and Geneva feel it essential that the Hong Kong Government field either one or two specialist officials to cover what is likely to be the intense interest in the Hong Kong report.
