COMMENTARY

(a) District crime prevention officers would

continue to pay particular attention to

the theft of motor vehicles.

(b)

The Attorney General expressed concern

about the light sentences imposed by the

courts for indecent assault and said

that he had invited the Court of Appeal

consider imposing a term of

to

imprisonment in the worst cases.

(c) Police

action against triads and

organized crime had helped to reassure

the public that the Police were on top

of the crime situation.

(d) During next week's visit to Hong Kong by

a group of Chinese security officials,

the

opportunity

would be taken to

discuss ways of curbing the entry into

China of cars stolen in Hong Kong. The

question of smuggling by sea would also

be raised and the known bases in China

of

speedboats

engaged
