HONG KONG: THE ACER GROUP

Following a call on me by the Chief Executive of the Acer Group on 8 March I wrote to Mr Heap in Hong Kong about the Group and what I had learned of its activities (copy of my letter attached).

I have now heard from Mr Bridgen, the Chief Executive, following his meeting with Mr Heap (his letter of 2 April attached). Mr Bridgen suggests, obliquely, that his Company's bid for the new airport might be given a boost during Mr Maude's forthcoming visit to Hong Kong.

As I made clear in my letter to Mr Heap, I know little about the company, although its original parents (John Taylor and Freeman Fox) have been well known to commercial officers around the world for many years. It occurs to me that you or COMED may have heard from Mr Heap following Mr Bridgen's call on him. I should be grateful if you would consider whether it is necessary to brief Mr Maude on this before his visit to Hong Kong.
