HONG KONG: AIRPORT PROJECT
1.
Mr Maude was invited to lunch today by Laing & Cruickshank to talk about developments in Hong Kong. The Chairman, Ian Hay Davison, made a particular point of emphasising the importance of financial support from the Bank of China for the airport project in Hong Kong; this would demonstrate China's commitment to Hong Kong's continuing economic prosperity.
2.
Mr Maude would like to see the papers on this subject. He is aware that it is not an immediate issue (and mostly a matter for the Hong Kong Government). But in the light of Mr Heap's telegram yesterday, he wonders if the question of British participation in the project has been finally ruled out.
