THE HONG KONG SIDE SAID THEY HAD NOT MADE THIS A FORMAL CONDITION BUT IT DID REFLECT THEIR ATTITUDE: NEVERTHELESS THE GROUP SHOULD CONSIDER THAT THEY WERE ON A SHORT LIST OF FOUR FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT (I BELIEVE THE OTHERS ARE BECHTEL AND PARSONS (U.S.A.) AND LAVALAN (CANADA) BUT WERE ONE OF TWO HUNDRED FOR THE FIXED LINK. TO THIS THE GROUP REPEATED THEIR POSITION AND EXPRESSED SCEPTICISM ABOUT THE 200.

OVERALL IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL VISIT THAT ACHIEVED ITS OBJECTIVES WELL, PARTICULARLY IN IMPROVING UPON THE IMPACT OF THE PREVIOUS APPEARANCE. IT WILL HAVE SHOWN THE GROUP AS ONE OF THE STRONGEST, AND PERHAPS WE MAY REASONABLY HOPE, THE STRONGEST, IN THE FIELD, WITH THEIR FINANCIAL AS WELL AS THEIR ENGINEERING STRENGTH CLEARLY MAKING A FAVOURABLE IMPRESSION. AS IN NOVEMBER, THE GROUP STRESSED THE FINANCIAL ROLE THAT MITSUI WOULD PLAY. THE MITSUI REPRESENTATIVES DID NOT DEMUR BUT AGAIN STRESSED THAT THEY EXPECTED A CONSTRUCTION ROLE AS WELL.
