The NETHERLANDS allows the import of ivory antiques certified as being more than 100 years old and household effects, in the case of removals, but only with valid CITES documents. Hunting trophies, souvenirs and other products made of ivory. that are household effects or antiques may be re-exported with valid CITES documents (ie, Pre-Convention or re-export certificates, depending on the case).
PORTUGAL allows the import/re-export of Pre-Convention ivory, but requires that CITES permits be obtained for such specimens.
SPAIN allows the import of antique ivory more than 100 years old. It does not allow the re-export of hunting trophies that were imported after 18 January 1990. SPAIN allows the re-export of tourist souvenirs only if it is proven that they are personal effects or for domestic use, and were imported previously in accordance with the provisions of the Convention.
UNITED KINGDOM permits the import of personal and household effects of Pre-Convention items. Each application is considered on its merits. Pre-Convention status alone may not qualify the item in question for a permit. The UK implements EC controls on internal sales (Article 6 of EC Regulations 3626). Import of Pre-Convention Ivory is not allowed for commercial purposes. The UK entered a reservation on behalf of Hong Kong. The reservation applied to Hong Kong only and solely to the re-export of ivory which had been imported into Hong Kong in accordance with CITES controls. The reservation was withdrawn on 18 July 1990. A voluntary Moratorium on imports covering all commercial shipments of raw and worked ivory was introduced before the entry of the reservation and remains in force.
