Regarding retraining, as explained in the Finance. Committee paper faxed to you earlier on, the Vocational Training Council and the Construction Industry Training Authority accept ex-ivory workers to their existing courses for retraining. As as 16 July 1990, 6 have completed these courses, 4 will undertake courses which commence in September 1990, and y are still undergoing retraining. The nature of the courses are diverse, ranging from hotel housekeeping services, jewellery, printing to construction industry, etc. Also as explained in the Finance Committee paper, a special retraining course on cattle horn/bone carving will commence in late August/ early September 1990. will cater for a total of 240 places. apply for enrollment onto this special re-training course will start early next week. If necessary, we will repeat this course for 80 additional places.

We have received enquiries by ex-carvers showing interest in this special course, but we do not have the exact number.
