1. Please see the attached four Parliamentary Questions about the

holdings and business transactions of individual companies in Hong

Kong.

As you will see from their telno 1099, Hong Kong do not consider it appropriate to disclose commercial or personal information. I

sought advice from the DTI: they would take a similar view with

regard to British companies and usually suggest in the reply that it is up to the individual company to decide whether or not to provide

commercial information.

In the light of this advice, I suggest the following reply:

"It would not be appropriate for me to disclose information of a commercial nature, [given in confidence to the Hong Kong Government). It is for the individual company to decide whether or not to make

such information available."
