Land disposal
During the first three quarters of 1990,
a total of
Government
10.4 hectares of land were sold at
auctions and by tender (including Letter A/B tenders), comprising 2.1 hectares for
industrial use and 8.3 hectares for non-industrial
use. Comparatively speaking, the Government land
auction in August met with a more favourable
response than that in September. The prices
fetched for the two industrial sites in the second
auction were somewhat lower than expected.
Industrialists generally preferred to stay on the
sideline in view of the uncertainty arising from
the Gulf crisis and the downturn in the United
States economy.

Six sites with a total area of 7.3
hectares were taken up in the Tai Po and Yuen Long
Industrial Estates in the first three quarters of
1990 (Table 6). Up to the end of September 1990,
96% of the land in the Tai Po industrial Estate
and 49% of the land in the Yuen Long Industrial
Estate had been allocated.
