British commercial representation in Hong Kong is through

the British Trade Commission (Senior Trade Commissioner:

Mr Peter Heap). The BTC was upgraded to the status of a senior post with effect from 1 September 1988; the Senior Trade Commissioner was made a member of the Senior Grade.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office is actively pursuing the matter of a new building in Hong Kong for the British Consulate-General (as our representation will become in 1997).

In 1989 17 DTI-supported outward trade missions visited Hong Kong; there were 13 joint ventures at international exhibitions; and in the autumn Daimaru department store and K & K Supermarket Ltd both held store promotions of British consumer goods with DTI support.
