Dear Alan
BRITISH INVESTMENT IN HONG KONG
1. You are probably already aware of the concern felt in some quarters of the British business community that the true nature of Britain's commercial and financial stake in Hong Kong is not properly realised. I believe that Henry Keswick wrote to The Times about it recently suggesting that the Secretary of State had used too low a figure. I now enclose copies of two letters from Sir Adrian Swire, one of which encloses a letter which he has sent to The Times and the other which details the size of the British content of Swire's own major investments here. The latter figures are extremely interesting and provide useful evidence of the true nature of our stake.
