Dear Rosalind,
VALUE OF BRITISH INVESTMENT IN HONG KONG
May I first of all introduce myself as Ian Wilson's successor February) here in DTI on the Hong Kong /
(with effect from 19
China / Taiwan desk.
I have been following the exchanges on this subject with some interest and the most recent piece of paper I have seen is Alan Paul's Telno 38 of 20 March to Peter Heap. Before the inception of CSO our Statistics Division overhauled Reg Holloway's paper and it occurs to us that it might be helpful, once Peter has responded, for your economic advisers to get together with CSO. The latter are responsible for the publication of direct investment figures, etc. The thought is that because the subject is something of a minefield and fraught with difficulties in terms of coming to a "true" picture of the value of British interests in Hong Kong it would be useful to have the experts talking to one another.
I would be interested to know what you think.
your Elle lion
sincerely
