Hang Lung Bank (Acquisition) (Amendment) Bill

In accordance with Article XXVI of the Royal Instructions,

I enclose a copy of the above Bill, which is a Government measure. I also enclose a copy of the principal Ordinance.

The Hang Lung Bank (Acquisition) Ordinance was enacted in 1983, following correspondance with your office. The Ordinance provided for the acquisition by the Government of the Hang Lung Bank, Limited. Government has recently sold the bank and it is necessary to repeal certain parts of the Ordinance. Section 7(2), (3), (4) and (5) has already ceased to have effect by virtue of an order made under section 11 of the Ordinance.

In a previous letter to you, dated 8 January 1990, I enclosed a copy of a Bill to merge the Hang Lung Bank with the Dao Heng Bank. That Bill contains provisions similar to those in the Bill enclosed herewith. It is proposed, however, to drop those provisions from the merger Bill.

I would be grateful if you would confirm that the amendment Bill may be proceeded with without further reference to the Secretary of State.
