(b) we cannot see any difficulty with late April/May in the years mentioned. Hong Kong are aiming for 1992. We

understand that the ADB are worried about holding a

meeting in Manila in 1992 because of problems that may

arise from the Philippines general election. We would support Hong Kong -hosting the 1992 meting;

(c) Hong Kong is ideally placed to host such an event. Hong Kong currently has over 27,000 hotel rooms and. would expect the new Convention and Exhibition Centre to be used one of the largest and the most modern in

Asia. - Facilities would not be a problem;

(d) The Chinese have been consulted and have stated that since Hong Kong was a member of the ADB in its own right, they would support Hong Kong in its bid to host a meeting.

3. I hope that this information will enable you to make a

positive recommendation that Hong Kong should be accorded

high priority in holding an ADB meeting
